“The sons of Ephraim were archers equipped with bows, Yet they turned back on the day of battle. They did not keep the covenant of God And refused to walk in His Law; They forgot His deeds And His miracles that He had shown them. He performed wonders before their fathers In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. He divided the sea and caused them to pass through, And He made the waters stand up like a heap. Then He led them with the cloud by day And all the night with a light of fire. He split the rocks in the wilderness And gave them plenty to drink like the ocean depths. He brought forth streams from the rock And made waters run down like rivers.” Psalm 78:9-16 NASB2020

If God is with His people, then why did they keep being defeated? Here are the repeated patterns of how His people kept failing: (1) They did not keep the covenant that God made with them. (2) They refused to walk/live according to God's law/word/instructions/commandments; (3) They forgot God's works and the miraculous deliverance that He had shown them. If anyone keep failing with his/her walk with the Lord, Satan will be entertained when we keep doing these: (1) Just ignore and downplay the ultimate covenant that God had made not only with the Israelites, but also with anyone who believe in Jesus Christ. (2) Just live according to your way or worldly wisdom or following the instruction of the crowd. (3) You don’t need to read the Bible from cover to cover, so God’s works through Jesus Christ and His miracles don’t need to be remembered. Now I’m quite certain that there are many of us who long to have victory in Christ in our life, then simply do the opposite, and Satan will eventually be crushed as sin will become a thing of the past. God has given His people everything to be able to live a victorious life in His Son—Jesus Christ, but He still leaves us freewill to choose. And our choice sets us on basically two paths: (a) God’s righteous one by having faith in Christ and (b) human one by fearing (and pleasing) people. May we all learn and humbly make a wise choice.
