“Zechariah said to the angel, “How will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in her years.” And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time.”” Luke 1:18, 20 NASB2020

It seemed to be a fair/logical question to ask. However, it was not the question. It was the reasoning/explanation that showed Zechariah's doubt or lack of faith/trust in the Lord. He was spiritually blind, unable to see what the Lord is going to do. And the gracious correction/outcome was that he was muted by God's messenger, so that he now need to use his eyes to observe/see the works of the Lord. Zachariah was unable to speak/declare the good news (that he was skeptical about) till the Lord fulfilled it in proper time. As for us now, there might be times that we doubted or lacked faith/trust in God's word/promises through Jesus. This perhaps explain why we kept silent and unable to even speak to our own soul and others about the good news of Jesus Christ. Those who later experienced/encountered God's promises through/in Jesus will boldly proclaim it with passion and full of faith. May this be the reality of the majority of folks in our church. Godspeed.
