“So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of her, and did not inquire of the Lord. Therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom over to David, the son of Jesse..” 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 NASB

Unfaithfulness that is ongoing and being unrepentant surely leads one’s life to total destruction. So how can we be aware of our unfaithfulness unto the Lord? Here are some markers:
Am I keeping (believing, trusting, obeying) and living out the word of the Lord in an intentional and purposeful way?
Are people around me noticing that I’m in love with Jesus as they see me seeking the counsel of God’s word instead of people’s acceptance through expected social norms/activities in any given industry or business practices (e.g., smoking, drinking, partying, “shady” karaoke places, etc.)?
Am I “alive” (liked/loved by the world) but [spiritually] dead in the Lord? Self-check: ask your colleagues how they see/view you.
Am I, in the light of Christ, abiding in Jesus and adhering to His word in every aspect of my life? Check your most recent delayed obedience (disobedience), and you will know how close/far you are from the Lord.
I hope and pray that most of us will not be found unfaithful unto the Lord and end up in a tragic death. The sad reality in the Bible has been that some will be like King Saul.
