ARE YOU A SERVANT?

(Further reflections on "The Weapons Of Righteousness"--Sunday 14-Feb-2021)

Conceptually, most Christians do not have a problem of being called God's servants. However in reality not many would want to live a life of a servant. Why, you may ask. I don't have the answer, but Scriptures in 2 Corinthians 6:4–10 might give us some clues or paint a picture for us, "...but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything."

Now read the above words again slowly, check with your souls honestly, pause, reflect, and ask yourself, Are you a servant of God? Have you experienced some/all of those things? Now I assume there are a few of us who were brought up in a church tradition that views servants of God are only ordained pastors/ministers/missionaries or some kind of special Christians. Now if this is you, then ask yourselves this, "Are only your eyes/hands/feet 'servants' of your physical body? How about those organs inside, e.g. heart, brain, liver, kidneys? You got the idea? (Need a reminder? Check 1 Cor 12:12-30).

Biblically speaking, people are either servants of self/sin/the Devil or of the living God in Christ Jesus. There is no neutral ground. Well, people can stay neutral or remain indifferent or can be anything they want, but they are simply not Christians or ambassadors or servants of God in the true sense of what the Scriptures describe and prescribe.

Once again, "Are you a servant of God?" If 'yes', praise the Lord and let's embrace the new life In Christ in full spectrum. If 'no', you are either lukewarm/religious/cultural Christians or lost and we still love you and want Christ to be the center of your life as you learn to be God's servant. If you don't know what to do, please talk to me (if/when you trust me).

Amen.
